Top 5 Songs: 1971-1975Remember the hits of our college years? An eclectic mix, from American Pie to Rhinestone Cowboy. Things have changed in the intervening years -- the Osmonds and the Jackson Five have split up, and Elton John and Paul McCartney are now "Sirs." The top hit of 1974 -- Barbra Streisand's rendition of the theme song from the movie The Way We Were -- has a Williams connection. The movie's producers had arranged to film the movie's college scenes at Williams in late summer. However, production ran late and filming would have begun during the fall semester. Deciding that hosting a Hollywood film crew during classes would be too disruptive, the Williams administration withdrew its permission for filming. Union College stepped into the breach and became the set for the movie's college scenes. However, Union did not have a crew team -- so it's the Williams crew team you see rowing in the opening credits. The last minute location change also explains why Robert Redford wears a big W on his letter sweater. Top 5 Songs for 1971
